    SRB2ME Palette Empty SRB2ME Palette

    Post by daiches99 Thu Aug 06, 2009 7:14 am

It didn't take long for me to post here.
The pictures are all inverted, how do I get SRB2ME's palette for XWE?

Please don't crack jokes when someone is asking a legitimate question, Chaos Knux.

There is an option to save the srb2.srb PLAYPAL lump as a .ACT file. Do that, and put it in your PALLETES folder for XWE, and you will be able to select it under "Get Palette".

However, I can't figure out how to get it to work. That's just how it's supposed to be done.

After the pallete has been saved to Palletes (give it a filename you'll remember, like srb2.act), select any image in the WAD you're working with, then go to "Image > Select Pallete" in the menus, and select "srb2" from the list. YOu will need tore-add any image that you added before doing this, as it will be in the wrong pallete.

You'll have to select the pallete every time you restart the program; XWE isn't that bright and seems incapable of remembering this choice. Images already in the pallete will,of course, still be in the pallete.

Man, there needs to be an official SRB2 Lump Editor. Anyway, I've learnt something. TO THE XWE! *insert awesome music here*

No, I mean something like XWE, not something Command Prompt based.

Actually, lumpmod is pretty much a step BELOW command-prompt based. Compared to lumpmod, a command-prompt lump editor written in C++ would seem state-of-the-art.

Is there any way to load in SRB2ME's palette into a spriting program so those are the only colors that I'll be able to use?

I don't really know, but it shouldn't matter, because any colors that aren't in the palette will be automatically converted to the closest appropriate color when you insert a sprite into XWE.

Yeah, but xWE doesn't work on my computer. I have to use SLumpEd. Does it do the same thing in SLumpEd?

I'm 99% sure it does, but I don't use SLumpEd nearly as often as I use XWE, so I'm not positive. There's no harm in trying.

Hmm.. I'll try it. What's really annoying is that on my computer MS Paint changes the colors of a sprite every single time I save it, so when I open it up again, it's all changed to 10 colors instead of one.

Blahblahbal, are you saving your files as JPEGs? That might cause the problem you're describing. DON'T do that. Save as BMP, or, if you're concerned about file size, as PNG.

*facepalm* Oops. Yeah, I am. I'll save them as PNG, just because I don't want the final MH to be over 100 gigs.

Good choice, since SLumpEd supports PNG. If you ever use XWE, however, I'd strongly recommend BMP.

Yeah, nevermind, I'll probably use BMP for alot of my custom sprites, because for some reason SLumpEd likes to put a darker background on the sprites even though I have the background as cyan.
