Some kind of canine. Anubis, Egyptian Lord of the Dead has one's head.

this seems original, species wise. because people mainly make wads about hedgehogs,foxes,and echindeas. a jackel, i cant wait too see this!

Sprites :

Not bad, you obviously understand what makes a good character. I'd work on the spritework though. Using established sprites as a base for the style and changing them beyond recognition is perfectly fine.

To be brutally honest, this looks a little childish compared to the SRB2-styled sprites. As it is, I'd expect the images to be seen on a fridge.

So yeah, good WAD. Love the idea. Work on your art a little more before final release.
