Forum Ideas

Okay, I've started again on Invision. Wad Heaven's dead so I started to make a new forum for now. Any ideas?
And yeah, smilies are screwed for some reason.

Well, first of all, I'd say we need an Introductions Forum for newcomers. Most message boards have them, including the former Wad Heaven.

Also, how do I change my avatar on this new forum?

Up the top is UCP (User Control panel) there should be an area saying Avatar up the top. And there you go. If that doesn't work, resort to admining.

Anyway, I was thinking of changing the theme to some sort of strategy guides.
I dunno. Since Wadbase is doing the same thing as this now. >.>

Edit: Anyway, I was thinking of doing a Wadbase and putting it in General Discussion.

Do you mean that it won't be a place to post WADs?
If so, I disagree strongly. The more online sites for WAD posting, the better, in my opinion.

BTW, it says I have administrator priveleges, but my title is "user". How can that be changed?

Should be useful. I made a different version of the one we have now, but if you have an idea, just send it up.

Another thing: I personally find the big dotted boxes saying a person is online really annoying. The boxes can theoretically be useful, but the way they're placed, they partially obscure avatars.

Also, I think we should have a points system in this message board. It would be one feature that we have that no other SRB2 board has.

Actually, it isn't the box, it's the online tag that's doing that. I'll post up a picture of you. Maybe points, I dunno.

-Mods
-Single Player Levels
-Multiplayer Levels
-Characters
-MD2 Models
-SOCs
-Other Releases

Also, what is the Basket for?

Edit: but do we need a separate forum for SP and MP stages? I fused mods and levels because not many people will make mods.

First, I don't think we need a Mod Chat. It was a subject of ridicule by some people and made us look as if we were disorganized. Also, it wasn't really that useful; anything that was in Mod Chat could have been posted in the release topic for that mod.

Also, I do think we need individual forums for SP, MP, and Mods. Even if there won't be a lot of mods, they are still a type of release all their own and should be treated as such. As for SP and MP, level WADs are the most common releases, so it makes sense to separate Single Player and Multiplayer to make it possible to have more specific designations.

We should probably think of a few other ways we can set ourselves apart. I still think we should add in a points system; they can be really fun and encourage people to contribute.

On one of my old forums, there was a point system. That didn't last long. It's really just a voting system. If you want it though, you can do the honours. You can do something instead of give ideas now.

Take out those useless smilies, for starters, after redo that banner of yours (long pic up in the forum); It's JPEG-ish.

The banner is only temporary, it would be nice to get a better one.

And just tell me which ones to get rid of in pms. I'll get rid of the just plain silly ones.

This place is seriously full or problems.

First off, it's just plain ugly. It has a ton of clashing images which really don't work together, and it looks terribly generic. The logo looks really ugly with some bad-looking door, terrible image quality, and misplaced Sonic and Tails images which don't even have the white background removed. Some of the text is impossible to see because it passes the boundaries it should be in and strays of into the black background. And the slogan is terrible. Remove all the smilies besides the default PHPBB2 ones, get rid of the stupid rank images, and make things look more neat an organized. Some categories are incredibly small and hold only one or two forums to talk in, and some are just plain useless (user-only things, the "trash" forum).
Another thing is the smilies. We don't need even half of the ones here. Rabbits? Kings? Flowers? What the hell do you think these'll EVER be used for? It's as if you're adding these just because you can. They don't add anything, and there's a ton of clashing styles. Because of this, this place feels really "noobish" (lack of a better word) and cheap.
Another thing is the staff. Violo and Fawfulfan simply aren't good staff members. They're terribly childish and I haven't seen a speck of proof that they deserve even the lowest of moderation privileges. Give powers to people that deserve it. Not just people who jump up and beg for it. Someone smart like Blue Warrior and Chisuun need the power. Not people like Violo and Fawfulfan.
Another thing is, this place is really unorganized. There's two help forums for SRB2, two trash forums, and redundancy in the WAD release forums. We don't need a seperate forum for each little thing. All we need is one for graphics, levels, and coding and SOCs. The trash forums aren't needed, the "WAD requests" forum is entirely useless and doesn't deserve it's own forum, and the private forums are incredibly useless as people can sign up when they want to just to see what's in there.
The descriptions of the forums don't make sense. "Other stuff relating to SRB2 that can help out." is terribly vague and doesn't make any sense. Some descriptions are just plain stupid. "Release your socks here, just make sure you wash them first. Get it? Yeah. Lame." is an example. Don't try to put humor. Just put a description of the forum.
Another problem is the hosting. Being a free site, there'll soon be ads popping up all over the place, which is seriously annoying. There's no custom CAPTCHA enabled, so spam bots can post stupid advertisements and post pornography everywhere.
This place is also hideously unoriginal. There's absolutely nothing here that I haven't seen dozens of times. Some things are obviously taken from things on the WADBase, such as the private area and the offtopic forum. There's a ton of forums which are obvious ripoffs of the SRB2MB (the entire "releases" section) and this place has nothing to make it stand out. It's a forum about SRB2 where you can also talk about general things. There's absolutely nothing interesting about that, and there's no reason at all to pick this place over the WADBase, which while not very original, does several things right and has it's own sense of originality in the way it's run.

Overall, this place is incredibly terribly made and doesn't even have a chance to blossom unless you people decide to fix the numerous glaring flaws. Don't give me that "It's because we never got a chance to shine!" garbage; if you know that this forum is in a terrible shape, you should do something about it instead of waiting for something to happen.

I honestly hope that the above post doesn't get deleted. It might be a little upsetting, but the majority of it is pretty much the truth.

And, what's the focus of this place? Sonic Robo Blast 2? Seriously?
It really doesn't feel like it, what with all the stupid and generic forums that don't relate to it at all. If you actually shift this place into focusing on the game instead of being a generic board about everything, you might actually get some activity in here.
And, remove the Ring system. It's really stupid and unnecessary. All it does is add clutter to a place that's bad to begin with.
Those stupid badges that say whether you're online or offline cover most of the profile and make things even more cluttered and ugly.

I very much agree with you on the Online/Offline badges. Those will be removed.

Also, I'll see what we can do about all those other things. One thing first of all: I'm promoting Chisuun to administrator. He has good ideas.

Is it REALLY needed to have a wad section here?!
If you want to post wads, then go over WADbase or SRB2MB. And if you're very lazy to just make some clicks, then I'm wondering how did you get here if you're THAT lazy...

The WADs section is definitely going to stay. This isn't supposed to just be a talk forum.

However, please continue to offer ideas. I'm trying to accommodate as many as I can.

The forums just look a little dull, perhaps you could have better colours since black is dull and boring. Maybe do what you did with the Wad-Heaven and have a logo contest?

Why is Chaos Knux a moderator? He doesn't seem like a responsible person at all. He's far too lenient.
